1.
You need to know the amount of cooling
water flow used per minute in gallons (GPM).
To calculate this you can use a water flow
meter or place a one gallon bucket into
the flow of your cooling water (leaving
the process). Record the time it takes
to fill the bucket, then divide the results
into 60. The results you obtain represent
your cooling water flow in gallons per
minute (GPM).

2.
You need to know the difference is the
temperature change (heat rise). This is
the difference in the cooling water temperature
entering the heat load (process) and the
cooling water temperature leaving the process.
To calculate your temperature change, place
a thermometer directly in the flow of water
going to your current process for one minute
and record the results. Then place a thermometer
directly in the flow of water coming from
your current process for one minute and
record the results. Take the difference
of the two results. This result is your
temperature change.

Although not necessary to size a chiller,
we have also provided a way for you to
calculate savings and payback when using
a Rite-Temp closed chiller systems. You
will need to provide the following information.
It is very important that you
do not guess at any of the numbers you
are providing. A difference of
just one degree in temperature could
give you the wrong system. If you
are unsure, please contact us at 1(800)
